The Means of Grace

Word and Sacrament:  The “Means of Grace”

At Christ Church, we believe that God extends His grace and speaks to His people today through two “means,” principally:  Word and Sacrament.  We also believe that God calls the church to speak to the world in His name through these same means.

The “Word” refers both to the Holy Scriptures as they are read, and to the preached Word as those Scriptures are faithfully expounded and taught.  “Sacrament”  refers to the two sacraments which Christ has given His church: the sacrament of Holy Baptism and “The Lord’s Supper” (the sacrament of Holy Communion), which together constitute the “Word” in “sign.”
