The “Chalice” in the shield’s bottom right corner represents one of the two principal ways (Word and Sacrament) by which Christ speaks to us and by which we, as the church, are commissioned to speak to the world in His name as we await His return. Thus, the chalice reminds us specifically that the Sacraments (Baptism and The Communion of the Lord’s Supper), which together constitute “the Word in sign” are “means of grace” through which Christ continues to minister comfort, strength and encouragement to His people.
