Essential and Particular Beliefs

The doctrines that Christ Church holds and teaches can largely be categorized under one of two major headings:  essential beliefs and particular beliefs.  But perhaps our use of those terms needs some explanation.

By “essential beliefs,” we mean those doctrines that Christ Church holds in common with all other Christian groups—essential beliefs without which we could not rightly, in the historical sense of the term,  be called “Christian.”  By “particular beliefs,” we mean those doctrines and practices  which might, to a greater or lesser degree,  set Christ Church’s doctrinal understanding and practice apart from other Christian churches or groups.
